Development Work (Concept Art)
The following images show my own experimental drawings and concepts of my game idea. This includes two character concepts, either in digital drawing or traditional drawing form. I began by drawing some very quick organic objects a couple inspired by my sketches from the 'sketchbook' page. Otherwise the rest were just made up as I went a long.
I used very unusual colors and color combinations to try present a basic fantasy feel to them. After finishing these doodles I realized that I may have used too many pink and purple colors so I will change them later on. I do not want my game too look too bright.

I decided that my next step was to come up with an actual environment or scene that you may see in my game. I chose not to color this as I just wanted to experiment with the placement of organic objects and play around with parts of nature.
This environment was created by picking out some details from my mood boards and adding in my previous organic concepts. I mainly created this as I went a long. Starting with the tree at the left. I tried to think about if this was a scene in my game, the pathways lead to three different directions. Left, right and up. All three pathways leading to different types of environments. Left being an 'enchanted forest'. Upwards being a taiga or mountain environment. And the right path leading to a woodland or grassland area.
Next, I pulled out the concept work of my main character that I wrote about in the 'ideas generation' tab. This is the old concept, i'm placing it here so that you can remember what Echo used to look like when I first created him.

Now that you have seen my old concept again, I would like to share the new concept and cleaner drawings that I did of Echo. This still will not be the final design. When I changed the mask I was shocked at how in love with it I was! I only added a few extra details but It made a huge difference in my opinion. I wanted to play around with a different pose. I think it worked really well! I may change some more of Echo's details in the future.
Already I can see so much improvement in the character design. I'm looking forward to the future where further changes will be made. And then I would like to start focusing on Echo's other stages - Youth and Elder. But I do think it is more important to focus on his main design before moving onto the next stages.
Villain/Rival Character Concepts
Before I started any kind of concept for the villain, I asked one or two people - 'What kind of animal would the villain be?' because I couldn't think of anything straight away. The first things that were said were 'Lizards, Dragons, Crocodiles.' Within an instant I grabbed the closest thing to me that I could draw with and drew everything I saw in my head. It only took those few words to get me started on some sort of concept. With a black pen I started to 'highlight' the parts I was happy with and would most likely take onto the next concept of my villain.
For now I'm going to mainly focus on the main design of my villain. I'll probably focus on its details later on. Next I'm going to create a digital sketch, this being a cleaner and more accurate drawing. There isn't much about it that I can mention other than I'm going to focus on the reptilian species. I'm unsure if it will be a rival or the bigger more 'important' villain of the game, but this will later be decided if I was to create other villains for my game.
After I created another concept drawing of my villain, i'm starting to think it looks a little too toony to be the big villain of a game. Perhaps this character should be a rival or a 'smaller' or 'less important' villain in the game. On the other hand, after a few more future concept drawings the role of this character may change judged on appearance.
I struggled with the leg anatomy a little bit so the bottom half of the character does not look very tidy, It is something that I will need to practice before continuing working on the design itself.
